Picked up a few new neccessities for the trail

I've only had my FJ out a couple of times on the rocks, the first time we aired down and the second we were at normal pressures. There was no doubt how much performance was left on the table by NOT airing down after today. I know this is a "no duh" thing for experienced wheelers, but I had no real idea how much loss in performance I was going to see. Not to mention the additional wear on the parts from having to muscle up a rock when 20psi less in your tires would have allowed a graceful ascent.

Anyway, I did a bit of research and ordered this air compressor and deflator.
Tsunami MV-50

Currie EZ Deflator

Definately a good thing to have.

A good choice (although a little slow) for a portable is this ARB unit. The pump can be mounted and used with the air locker if you add that later on.

Re: Picked up a few new neccessities for the trail...compressor/deflator

Well, they both showed up today....so I HAD to go test them.

First I aired down one of the tires with the Curry EZ Deflator. It screws on and then removes the valve core. It is kept captive so there's no way to lose it unless you do something silly. It went from 35psi to 18psi in a bit over a minute. Not bad. The nice thing is that you monitor the pressure while it's deflating, you don't have to stop and check it during the process.

Then I aired it back up with this cheapo Tsumani compressor (MV-50). I worked awesome! It went from 18psi back up to 35psi in about 3 1/2 minutes. I couldn't be more pleased with either product and they both came with carrying cases and look to be very well built.

The compressor was $93 shipped off eBay, so it's considerably less expensive than most offroad units out there. Highly recommended.

Just figured I would share the good experience with everyone.

This is the review I based my purchase off of. http://www.parksoffroad.com/prodrevi...flatormain.htm

I did just find that Summit racing sells the MV50 for $69.

Edit: Here is the deflator comparo as well. http://www.parksoffroad.com/prodrevi...flatormain.htm

Buy air compressors that connect direct to the battery -- not plugging into the cigarette lighter - no blown fuses.

What do you think about getting an air compressor that plugs into the 115V/400-watt power outlet?

Re: Picked up a few new neccessities for the trail

i was thinking about picking these up:

Air horn (train tone, 150 Db):

Air compressor (150 psi, 100% duty cycle, 0.81 cfm @ 100 psi)

Air tank (2.5 gallon, 23.5"L x 6.5"Dia)

i mostly wanted the air horn but the compressor/tank would work well as an onboard air system. check out the ebay auction and wav file:
