Re: turbo?

Even with very good engine management, you're not going to see reliable results much above 6 psi...that being said, someone will put 14 psi through it and swear it's all good. And then promptly buy a new engine block. 10:1 is too much for boost. (in our application anyway)

It would be great if I had a clue, but let's face it, that's just not gonna happen.

Re: turbo?

True! You must rebuild engine or the engine will bust actually the rods are the weak link in these motors.

Re: turbo?

With the 10.1 compression, I think the 4.0 could safely handle 8-10 psi with a liquid aftercooler. Maybe put out 350 hp at the crank, and 370 ft/lb torque at the wheel - yee haw!

Make it an easily adjustable set up so you can dial in the boost you want, when you want. If you were reasonable and didn't hammer the engine every 2 miles, I think you could get 100k out of the engine if you did all the neccessary maintenance.

Ahh well...and so we wait fot a URD kit (SC), A TRD kit (SC) and whoever else throws thier hat into the ring be it SC or turbo

Re: turbo?

If these motors have 10:1 compression then I am glad I am running 87 octane and not wasting my money.
My 1987 22RE 4 banger turbo 4x4 had over 300 HP with 12lbs of boost and an air to air intercooler with a stock ECU. I would think with an aftermarket fuel management system and 10 lbs an FJ would be over 400 HP.
