Not the place to pursue this. This thread is about Tankota's nice hack not about why. Sorry about that. I'll look for a "why did Toyota disable atrac in front" thread and pursue it there.
I don't know of any dealer that has to pay "out of pocket" for a customer's extended warranty claim. All authorized repairs are done under the approval of an outside administrator and the dealer is subsequently paid just as they are with the original factory warranty. "Extended warranties" are really just mechanical breakdown insurance.........just like your health insurance.
Might be the case, but for some reason it seems that in my experiance and many I know, that have done mods, it is the case that standard warranty they have no problem with, but extended it is a problem....dont really know why, and could be that they just decide they dont want to deal with it because its been modded. (this is also from sports cars, maybe it was they figured that since its modded the owner ran the crap out of it and its their fault, so they use the mods as an excuse) but who knows, I hope its not something that will affect the warranty as I plan to do this mod myself later.
I'm still not 100% sold. We are not getting the full compliment of lights in 4-lo now (ABS light is not on), so something is different... I think I'll stay in wait and see mode until a few people do several tough trips and report no issues...
Chris has the mod on his FJ, tackling this hill was not the easiest thing with our stock FJ's but Chris's did it alot easier than mine. I had to stop and keep switching between ATRAC and the locked rear diff. The process was repeated many times while Chris just gave it gas on the same climb and made it to the top on the first go run. I did too, but after alot of switching around. Can't wait to do this mod.

I hear you about it being easier with the mod in place...but for me, proof that I need it will only be had when the stock FJ is stopped. You said you made it in stock form (albeit a little more work), but you did make it. Also, it looks like you guys are all still running stock tires...is that true? If so, I'm still in the camp that says a little better tire & my stock FJ will go 99% of the places I want to go...and that last 1%...well, I probably shouldn't be going there anyway. Either way, I still think those are some killer pics.

YES...My left foot gets sad if it doesn't have a clutch pedal near by...
I have a manual tranny and actually stalled on the bottom portion. Put the handbreak on, cranked it up and continued, trying to maintain a steady crawl. You could hear the atrac working but it slowly made its way up. Not using alot of momentum to do it.
Jay actually had to back off of it and give it a good amount of gas. You can see how the open diff was hindering his ascent. We are running stock tires. Me until I get the lift and Jay I think wants some Hankooks.
