2wd low for automatics

Here's a useful modification for slickrock trails.

This only works for automatic transmission-equipped FJ cruisers. You are going to add a switch to the circuit that tells the 4WD Control ECU when the transfer case shifter is in 4WD, causing it to disconnect the front axle ADD.

The 4WD Control ECU is mounted next to the engine ECU, behind the glove box. It has a green wire harness plug. Find the red/black wire at pin 6 and cut it. Run the ends to a convienently located on/off switch. This will now be your 4wd-2wd/low switch. The 4WD light on your combination meter should still indicate if you are in 4WD or not.

People with manual tranny FJCs will need some type of twin stick shifter for that transfer case to get AWD low range.

Re: 2wd low for automatics

Looks like another good idea, mostly for climbing surfaces with good traction I take it. Alex, you wouldn't happen be working for the DOD up in Los Alamos while pouring over those FJ Electrical schematics now are you?
