I run a 6" lift with 35s and wish I had a 3" with 34s. My rig looks sick, but I'd feel better with a 3" for turning, gas mileage, drag, expense, etc. I've driven a 3" lifted FJC and it just feels so much better when driving. It has much more of a stock feel, and you feel like you're in control more. If only they made a 4.5" lift....I think we'd all go for that...
yup that what i asked the guys when i first went lift hunting looking for about a 4.5 lol i reckon ill end up with a 3 and 34s or 33s.... i dont understand whats stopping lift makers from doing a lift in between...

now what about a 6 inch lift on 33s ? i hear all this about a 3 inch with 35s but i couldn't afford a re gear would there be much stress on the FJ with 33s and a 6?
Nothing wrong with this combo at all, seems like everyone is making such a brew ha ha over a measily 6" of lift The 33's your not going to barely notice the power loss or effect of the mpg's. Take a look at the stock knuckles and other stock componets and compare with a 6" lift kit! There is so much more reinforced parts, yes you add weight, compare the weight of a full set of skids.

ya ive never understood why everyone hates on the 6 inch... seems good to me its hard to keep up with all my jeep buddies and their 37"s ..... would a 6 inch and 33s keep the mpg the same as the 3 inch and power and still ride around the same ? has anyone here done it?

what's there not to get? Clearance is measured by the lowest hanging 'part' which is the diffs, front and rear. 6" lifts require you to drop the front diff, thus loosing the clearance you just gained by putting on the 6" llift.
Not true in my opinion...you're gonna get at least a half inch more clearance (which I realize is a negligible amount) with a 6" lift and 35s over a 3" lift w/ 35s. IMO I'd still go with the 3" for the other benefits
No matter what lift you install the only way your going to get more clearance on your axle and front diff is larger tires. Now once you drive up and over a huge rock and come down is when you can damage your underside and this is where a bigger lift has it's advantage. I have seen many vehicles get high centered and cause damage. Armor will give you some protection with the cost of weight.

The IFS is.

Wrong, a 3" lift vs a 6" lift with same tires 3" will have more ground clearance. Why you ask? Because of the drop bracket, the 6" lift has a big chunk of metal hanging down to lower the mounting point of the LCA.

I ran Rubithon '08 with my OME's and 33's while another FJC had a 6" lift on 33's (in reality, 305/65/17's if I recall correctly) and it was noticeable how much more scraping we heard from his rig than ours over the same obstacle. Now, I believe we were on pretty much the same line but can't say 100% since the trail requires such focus.
The others have explained it well enough that I have no more to contribute other than...if you like it, do it, whatever it may be, its your rig.
I fit 35's with no problem in my "three inch lift" and it performs better than I could have expected it to do. I have no regrets nor any aspiration for any increase in "lift" of my rig, that is until the IFS goes bye-bye...
