Re: The OFFICIAL 6inch vs 3inch lift debate

Until someone actually goes out and measures I'm not gonna believe that a 3 inch lift will provide exactly the same clearance. I'm well aware about the drop bracket, but still believe I've got a bit more clearance than the 3 inchers....like I said BEFORE I'd still go with the 3" if I was you...

I will have mine next to Addis' tomorrow and will measure clearance on his 6"/35's compared to my 3"/33's.

I have done many measurements and documented my rigs evolution. Just as you believe your getting 15.5 mpg, you also believe this to be false. Go out and measure your rig and compare...

I posted a few months back with pictures and measurements and I have 19" of clearance at the center of my cross member, the diff is lower and is protected with a skid. I can take a different line than most.

There are major differences from a Procomp, RC or Fabtech drop kits. If you think a 3" lift with 35"s has equal clearance against 6" Fabtech and 35"s think again!

I have both these together and when I get the 37"s on board I will get some more pics and measurements. I live in deep sand and mud here and there's always flooding going on.

The only reasonable way to get bigger tires for addional lift to go all out and ditch the IFS and go solid axles and replace everything else.

Maybe next year I will put the FJ body on the old 460 bronco chasis with Dana 60's and 4:88 gears and 44 SS Then I really would'nt have much of a FJ anymore.

Where is that pic, I call BS. The pic I saw you post was vague and was like finding a hole to stick the tape measure in. Post a pic of measurement of your frame rail. I've had my transmission crossmember removed and with 35's don't see a number you claim at the crossmember.

Please don't take offense, post up a more common point than the obscure middle section of that particular IFS crossmember...

I was trying to take pictures one hand camera and other tape measure

I thought the other pictures showing the sliders side and rear reese hitch would show better points.and those measurements are accurate I will get some better pictures showing ground to frame and to the trans and all over.

It would be nice to do that belly tuck like you have! That's awesome

X2. It doest matter what kind of lift you have, it's the tires that decide your ground clearance. 3inch or 6inch lift doest matter for clearance at the axle

Wrong, a 3" lift vs a 6" lift with same tires 3" will have more ground clearance. Why you ask? Because of the drop bracket, the 6" lift has a big chunk of metal hanging down to lower the mounting point of the LCA.
This sounds like a debate that could be settled over a case of beer or a bottle of JIM and tape measure at the SUMMIT...

Re: The OFFICIAL 6inch vs 3inch lift debate

I will agree to disagree there is more all around clearance with a 6 inch lift than with 3 inch. Clearance is close to the same if comparing them both to fitting 35" but were I find that you will notice it most is on the trails we just ran eagle ridge in b.c pretty good trail with a stocker with rails one with 3" lift and mine with 6" I was the only one that cleared all the terrain did not end up on my rails or any part of the underside that the rest did hit I lead then spotted the rest throw my line and easier line and they still could not go the places I could go . they tried and tried but could not make it ask your wife what she likes 3" or 6"size does matter and I wheel the s**t out of my rig it aint no mall crawler there are weak spot on the 6 "lift but they are easily beefed up to take real trail abuse. again I know because I broke them also and thats what wheelin is breaking stuff then make it stronger so you can break the next weak link in the in the system

Re: The OFFICIAL 6inch vs 3inch lift debate

There is the break over measurements and approach angles that is greatly affected by a bigger lift that are very important too. And to get bigger tires on the FJ you have to lift the body and chop some out of the fenders. I will have to cut some things to fit
37"s to still have useful range of articulation. I have 9" of lift and with 37"s all points of the body will be 12" above stock. The tires will only affect my pumkin and front cross member and diff by maybe 3" but everything else will be up!
