Smile 2010 Rock Rail Specs?

I am waiting for my brand New 2010 Fj to arrive... Most likely tommorrow! Yiiiippppiiieeeee!

anyway, I have been mapping out what modifications I will be doing and in what order. I have decided the first plan of action will be to install all pro Rock Rails.

I was wondering if the Bracket specs on the 2010 are the same as the previous few years?

Also, what type of paint is best to use for them, and is easiest to touch up?

Re: 2010 Rock Rail Specs?

Mounting should be the exact same and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

If the bolts don't hand thread into the frame, stop by your local Ace Hardware and pickup a 8x1.25 high speed steel tap to clean out the threads. =)

Re: 2010 Rock Rail Specs?

I saw in the post about the 2010 lift that the frame may be different. Since the 2010 frame is the same frame as the 2010 4 runner,so I would check a little more.

Fj frame is not the same as the 4runner, as indicated by the different wheelbase specs between the two. The basic platform may be the "same", but the two do not interchange.

I read today that the 2010 FJ, 4Runner and Prado will be using the 4Runner frame and that also the previous model lift kits will be slightly different than the 2010, I'm not positive, it's just what I read online in another thread.

As for painting goes, I just painted and installed a set of All Pro rock sliders last week. All I did was wipe the bare steel sliders down with a rag and paint thinner to remove any welding debri and dust. Then used Rustoleum Flat black and did 3 coats (one coat a day so it would dry nice before the next coat). It is easiest for me after wheeling to touch them up that way too. Just a few sprays with the rattle can and they look good again.
Others have suggested to sand first and a coat of primer before painting but it looks good to me and it works so I'm happy.
