FJ should have no problems cruising at 80-85mph...I've cruised in my 96 landcruiser at those speeds and it's happy.
As for handling, depending on your driving skill from what I gathered on my test drive it's pretty capable of handling most turns if you know how to pick the right line. My landcruiser handles amazingly well for it's size...the FJ is probably a lot more capable than it lets on.
What rpms are you seeing at 80mph? I couldn't imagine it having a problem at those speeds with an auto...not sure how the 6-speed would be however, I'll take a guess and say they do fine as well.
