Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Very glad to hear you will be TCOD!! A friend had a Nissan Maxima (04) I think and it had a rear subframe issue...he lost a lot on it beyond the expected depreciation.

I am at 20K and no issues but I might trade down to a 4-door Taco. I dont want to deal with this and an even steeper depreciation and then be out of warranty and have this not covered. Not cool.

But I really enjoy the FJ. Crap just got it all cleaned up, washed, waxed and ready for date night...

The engineers looked at my rig today. I was told that they could not find any reason for my body rips. All my mods and the way that I wheel did not cause the problem. They did say that they were going to replace the inner fenders with the new style fenders. These are not a redesigned fender. They are produced by a different supplier. They also told me if it were to happen again in my 3year/ 36,000 miles that they would replace it again. They have no answers for what has caused these rips. Hopefully this will solve the problem, but I'm not going to hold my breath. After the repair I will be checking for bulges on a regular basis. I'm glad and thankful that Toyota is stepping up and fixing the problem. I would also suggest that anyone showing any signs of this take it in before your warranty is up. It apears its going to be a case by case issue. Hopefully if enough vehicles come forward Toyota will figure out a permanent solution. I would also like to thank everyone that was active in this thread.

Thanks
Bernd
