Re: Moab Closures - AYL episode on ABC TV
Why is it that non-motorized and some mechanized users have such a problem sharing?
Seriously, I don't mind sharing the trail with equestrains, hikers, mountain bikers, etc......yet they have a problem with Jeeps and quads.
Is it just a difference in upbringing? I was taught to share my toys. These little sh!ts act like if they can't have it all to themselves and like minded isolationists, then they'll just take their ball and go home (or whine like b!tches until they shut everyone else out). This selfishness is taking over our country....especially in terms of enviro-fascism. It's an attitude of "close everything.....just as long as it doesn't affect my acces or lifestyle".
The feature basically said, cutting 6K miles down to 2100 miles in Moab is no big deal b/c some of the routes "don't go anywhere" or "dead end".....and that a drop of more than 50% shouldn't be cause for concern. THIS IS A PLOY PEOPLE!!!!
They're lying to us to make us feel like there's nothing wrong with closing PUBLIC LANDS! There is.
Established rights of way have legal protection and RMPs and route inventories coupled with "multi-use" strategies are just ways to back door the system and close legitimate, legal routes.
The BLM or NFS representative basically gave the impression that if there was no "scenic" value to the trail or it didn't end in a destination.....it wasn't a valid route. The truth is, some routes exist soley to be routes. The route is THE purpose.
As I've said many times before, I think there will come a time in the not too distant future that western motorized access to public lands will be reduced to nothing and we'll all be herded like the sheep we are into "privatized parks".
Sad to see it come to this. Even sadder to see no one give a sh!t.
End of rant.
