Things go through such strange extremes with these access issues. I love getting way out into the middle of no-where, and the canyonlands, moab area is one of the best areas I've ever visited for that. It's largely WHY I got an offroad vehicle. So I could go see it. Now the trails are being shut down and I can't see it. Which means I'll forget about it. Then I won't care when it's churned up for mining or whatever. Where's the advantage to the environmental protection cause then? What a strange policy. And given that offroad vehicle recreation is such a big part of the Moab area economy, it just seems retarded to start shutting it down.
