Re: REAL POLL: Does your manual FJ roll?

Sorry, that's not the standard for negligence. As it seems that most reasonable people DO NOT in fact engage the parking brake when parking manual transmission vehicles, there would be nothing negligent about not engaging it here. Nice try but it's a legal term of art not to be thrown around loosely.
so we are to assume that if you are a reasonable person, then you are allowed not to use proper parking technique stated in the manual?

let me interject something here
OK, many do not set the brake, that is common, I agree, weither it is correct or not is not the issue here. Many feel that engine compression should hold the vehicle.
first, since the modle T, I am not aware of a vehicle that has POSITIVE compression. That is why we have VALVE OVERLAP. you see, never does both intake and exhaust valve(S) close at the same time. So therefore we rely on engine friction to keep it from turning and the vehicle from rolling.
BUT, nowdays we are using more and more alloys in egines to make moving surfaces, and the surfaces the move against less prone to wear, in other words slipperier (is that even a word?) Anywa so the habits we used 10 years ago may not be as safe today as they were then.
Chaulk it up to modern technology, and desiners wanting to make vehicles last longer and get better fuel mileage, while still delivering more and more Horse POwer.
So you see. Maybe the phenom of the thing rolling easier than your 85 Hilux pickup is due to advances in design, and maybe the habit of not pulling the parking brake is something we should rethink.
