I just bought a Uniden 78XL, from Clay's Radio Shop in Texas (
www.claysradioshop.com). Primary reason for doing so was A) Uniden makes a damn fine radio, and 2) Built-in SWR meter (for when I want to use different antennas).
Clay's modded the radio by tuning it up (as in wattage, roger-beep, and noise-filtering), plus had a special on Astatic noise-cancelling mics. Snagged a 2' Firestik to go with it, and plan on swapping my existing 3' when off-roading and traveling. 3' Firestik reportedly hits too many low ceilings (like parking garages, drive thru's, etc.).
