The only way that moose would have stopped dead in his tracks would have been a brain shot or one that severs the spinal chord at the base of the skull, a heart/lung shot on any moderate to large game will still require at least a minute(more like 3-8 depending on the exact location) before it bleeds out and goes brain dead
