Sometimes?? I wouldn't think they'd be able to give that kinda deal unless they make up for it in the trade. Lock that price in and sell the tacoma on Craigslist. You'd make up that $500 difference and then some by selling your truck on your own. Good luck, and post up some pics when you get it.

Great advice. I second going to Carmax first then going to the dealership to get that price locked. Just don't let Carmax know that you aren't going to be buying a car from them. I personally did that with my Lexus and couldn't have been happier with the outcome. I pulled the ol' "oh and I have a trade in, should we work on that now?" routine in the Finance office. At that point they're either gonna kill you on the trade in or be fair, no running back and forth and playing with numbers. They lowballed me bigtime, but that just proved that I got a good deal on the FJ. Good luck and don't be afraid to sell you car privately, the money you make in return is well worth the extra effort. Plus, people interested in buying your car like seeing how passionate you were with it. Dealerships, they don't care so much so it's actually YOU that helps buyers make an educated decision with your knowledge and understanding of the car not some Joe Shmoe that doesn't know how the car was taken care of.
