To resize pics to the appropriate size you can use Infranview. IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide
or
MS Image Resizer from their Power Toys page. Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
P.S. I don't have one but I am seriously considering getting one.
