I have a question for the Alaska owners, Anchorage specifically....
I'm moving up there from Texas, and though I have some winter/snow driving experience(originally from Washington), I was wondering what would be the best winter driving equipment for my FJ for getting around safely in Anchorage.
Good AT tires and chains? Studded tires to swap in/out? Chains and snow tires?
Thanks for any advice you can provide.

For your first couple seasons I would recommend studded tires to swap out during the winter. After a couple season you will be used to the conditions and can decide what works best for you. You will see very few people with chains up here unless they are plowing driveways or doing other tasks that make chains handy.
Byrdman,
I just got off work today so I may be free for a trip to Knik Glacier. I have to go to Dutch from the 11th. through the 16th. of February and have some Hockey obligations for my kids, but other than that i'm off work until Feb. 26th. so i'll be keeping an eye on the forum. Are you installing the Lucrum mount yourself? It's not really that difficult, so keep that in mind if your looking to pay someone to do it for you.
I followed a Sun Fusion FJ from the Y down between Seward and Cooper Landing almost to Hope today on my drive home, just wondering if they are on this forum? They pulled off at the Girdwood mini-mart and I would have stopped to say hi except that I've been away from home for two weeks and was in a hurry to get back to Anchorage.
