Hello all...
Quick question - maybe I'm missing something, but why not just plug straight into the AUX jack in the center cluster?

You can if you dont care about things like ease of control from the steering wheel, sound quality, meta data text display, etc. The signal comming out of the headphone jack has an EQ curve designed into its headphone amp that makes the FJ sound system sound kind of muddy. And no since sending a amplified EQ siginal into a low level input, that only causes distrtion. Comming off the dock connector to the back of the head unit is the cleanest way to do it for sound quality and for ease of use. It is the perfered way. The analog output in the dock connector is non-EQ'ed or amplified and bypasses a lot of other electronics in the siginal path that will lead to sound degragation and helps to "Restore" the original recording or data transfer from CD to computer to iPod to Stereo. Hope this helps.
