Rear Wheel Travel (aka Tales of the Tape)
I finally had a chance to cycle my rear suspension to determine the rear wheel travel. Stock FJC rear travel is listed at 9.06" by Toyota. With my King rear shocks and air bumps, I measured 13.25" of wheel travel with ~1/8" of travel left on the air bump.
Rear axle at full droop (down travel is limited by max rear shock extension and then rear anti-swaybar). Note that the passenger side rear spring was removed for this measurement.
Full bump travel is limited by the King air bumps. Note anti-swaybar was disconnected.
Full bump travel with tire on. I checked to make sure that the rear LCA still clears the frame mount and it does.
At full bump, the King rear shock still has another inch or so of travel left.
Jason located the rear King air bumps at the same location as the factory rubber ones. There's another 1/8" of air bump travel left but I have already maxed out my floor jack lift.
My BFG All Terrain T/A tire (285/70R17) clears both shocks. Note: the rear shock reservoir mounts are not the ones provided by King but were welded on by Jason when the air bumps were installed.
With the tire/wheel off the FJ, I was able also to measure the BS of the factory FJC steel wheel. It's 4.5" and the wheel and tire combination weight is 102 lbs. The BFG All Terrain T/A weighs ~58 lbs for the 285/70R17 size so the factory steel wheel weight is ~44 lbs.
King rear shocks specs:
Extended length: 24.5"
Compressed length: 16.19"
Travel: 8.31"
