1- Remove original shifter knob (unscrews).
2- Cover the console with something to prevent metal chips from getting into
the shift gate. use masking tape around the bottom of the shifter and
tape it to the cover you put over the console, sealing it.
3- Thread a 8-1.25mm die onto lever as far as it will go so it bottoms out.
4- Turn the die with it's handle a half turn then back off a half turn to clear
the chips out of it. Keep bottoming and turning the die in half turn
intervals until you have added as much new threads as you want.
I added about 1 1/2".
5- Use a hack saw and cut off the same amount of the shaft as you added
threads by holding the shaft secure with one hand and cutting with the
other. Take your time and dont let the shifter bounce around and you
should be fine.
6- Lightly file the top of the shaft and thread the die off.
7- Install your new knob and enjoy!
