The reason why I wouldnt mount it on the outside is because it wouldnt look smooth enough.

Although some like all the wires and gagets hanging and open, I dont and I need a more cutom instal if it was possible. If its not possible then ill go another direction.

I was thinking two things...

Get a panel type computer with a small wireless keyboard and mount it flush with the dash.

Or

just get a small laptop and flush mount the screen then you could fold down the keyboard whenever you wanted to use it. Probably having to add a mechanical resistor to give resistance so you can type on the keyboard.

I'm just thinking.

Also with the new mac air any recess in the car would only have to be 1/4".
