Re: New WA vehicle licensing bill

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I just e-mailed all my reps to lodge my dissatisfaction with this. Like Chewey46, I also have a pickup with a big engine that I only drive every once in a while and this seems ridiculous. Here is my e-mail:

"I just read a synopsis of SB 6900 proposing an "engine displacement" tax on our vehicles. I am highly opposed to this. I do not believe this is a fair way of taxing; I have two vehicles that are both lightly driven, but, since they have 4.0L and 5.7L engines, would cost me a lot of extra money to own if this bill was passed. Seems very unfair since my combined mileage on both vehicles is less than 10,000 miles per year, which is probably less than the norm for even one car. Enough taxes already!

Don't even get me started on my huge property tax bills that just arrived in the mail or the $20+ per month in state and local taxes just on my cell phone bill alone! Or the taxes on my utilities, gas, retail purchases, etc. It is getting hard to earn a decent living these days -- I think I work about 6 months out of the year just to pay all the taxes. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I am self-employed and don't have some cushy government pension to fall back on. Give us all a break and forget about new taxes and figure out a way to run things on the budget you have.

While we are it, why don't you ban metal-studded tires that tear up the roads and aren't any better than the dual-compound tires available today (i.e., Bridgestone Blizzaks) -- that would probably save many thousands a year in road repairs right there."
