sweet natured NorCal pitty needs a home

Ok, I am NOT a big pitbull fan, but this little story (from someone I know, vaguely) tugged at my heartstrings enough to post here. da Pitbull? CA Annie? This is from Castro Valley.

Last Saturday, the 8th, we awoke to a sweet small white female pitbull on our porch. She appears to be well mannered (knows: sit, stay, no, walk, ride, in, down, etc.). She has big floppy ears (not chopped), a long constantly wagging tail and of course a slobbery tongue just waiting to kiss someone with. My guess is that she is about one and a half to two years old (she still has the puppy butt that moves when she wags her tail). I gave her a dish of kibble and she ate a little after eating out of my hand first. She was very gentle and sweet with everyone she met.

She had some kind of chemical, yellow in nature, on her face and back. She
provided tons of kisses as she let me wash off her face. Once I got the chemical off her face her other eye opened up....she has one bright blue eye and one soft brown eye. She was eager to curl up in my lap for a tummy rub. She did not bark or growl at my kitties through the screen door.

She was eager to get in the backyard and kept trying to nudge it open with her big nose. I gave her some bedding, a toy and bowls of water and kibble. She played and napped quietly while I called animal control (no one was looking for her), posted "found" ads on here and Craig’s List.

Our senior Shar Pei (age 13) in going deaf/blind and has a bum leg. She is not looking for a play mate so I kept the two separated even though the pup did not seem to notice our senior dog. We had to attend a family gathering and planned to be gone for the rest of the day. Not wanting to deprive some unknown person or child of the ability to get their dog while we were gone, I was forced to contact Animal Control to pick her up.

The officer could not get over how sweet this little pitty was as he played
with her in our yard. She definitely seems to prefer to take instructions from a female over a male but took instructions from my father as well as the officer. I told her I was going to take her for a walk and she sat while I place a leash on her. I told her it was time for a ride and she sat while the officer and I put her in the kennel compartment of the truck. It was very sad to see her in the kennel compartment. She was shaking but still kept giving my son and I kisses through the little bars.

Her five day hold expired yesterday. No one has answered the "found" ads and no one has called to inquire about her (as of last night) but me.

The officer at the Fairmont Animal Shelter (510-667-7707) says she is one of
the calmest and quietest dogs there. She had no tag or collar when we found her and according to the pound, she does not have a microchip implanted. She is available for adoption now and her intake/tag number is 76209.

I would take her in a heartbeat if I was able to. Perhaps you or someone you
know would like to give this sweet dog a new home? It saddens me to think that the sweet loving dog, so trusting of strangers, is so unwanted by her previous owner.

She is obviously a smart girl as she picked the right house to visit (perhaps
it was the Saint Frances statute in our front yard) to find a little love and
shelter from the traffic dangers of Redwood Road. Now she just needs someone who can give her the home she needs.

Thank you.
