I really like the Xb (both old and new versions) and the Element . . . as well as the Nissan Cube which isn't sold here. They are so unbelievably roomy both in the front and the back. They offer all the performance that is really necessary and they get adequate to good mileage. The old Xb could average over 30 mpg on highway commutes.
Most of the folks (especially soccer moms) driving gas-guzzling V8 SUVs could easily get by driving one of these. The Element is even offered with AWD.
The funny thing is that the target audience for the Xb, Element, and FJ was supposed to be the younger set 20s-30s but they have found that a much, much larger than expected number of buyers are in their 50s and up. These vehicles are very comfortable, economical, and utilitarian for everyday use.

Can't wait to see Ford's new Flex.
