At a camp i worked at we used GMC 3500 vans to tow wakeboard boats with surge brakes. The trailer had a 5 pin but the van had a 4. If you took the connectors apart and just hooked up one of the trailer pins to one of the van's pins by putting the together sideways ( to form an x) it would disengage the trailer brakes. Yes this would require you to get out and change it, but i think it should work.

Thanks for the feeback. I'm sure this would work as long as you selected a "hot" pin. My trailer has a mechanical overide if I want to get out and set it before backing up; thus eliminating the need to disonnect the wiring.
I was even thinking of just running a separate wire from a switch on the dash to supply the 12v to dis-engauge the surge brakes. Not sure yet. I have a spare 5 pin plug ready to change out the factory 4. I may just look for the back-up light wire and hack into this for the 5th pin. Not sure which way I'm going to do this yet. I'll post pics iof my solution if no one has done this yet.
