In the old days when all you had was monotube you would run dual shocks to keep them cool. 2 shocks mean each shock is doing half the work and getting 1/2 as hot as it would with out the other there. You can see this in the old school desert race trucks and buggy's some of the trucks would have 4 shock on each corner. Now a days you don't need to do that since we have external reservoir shocks that will stay cool / cooler way longer then a monotube. Keeping shocks cool is all about oil volume and with a ext. res. shock you can get twice the amount of oil or more then with out it. So today in the desert all you have is dual shocks but one is more to hold the spring in place and the other is there doing most if not all of the dampening to that corner. Plus now we have monster shocks that are 4"+ and that right there is over twice the size of an old billy.
