There is nothing simple about those questions, but I'll give my take.
1) God. I know that this is going to cause one serious stink on here, but it's my answer.
2) We need gas to the point where it is completely intertwined with our lives. It is the life blood of any modern country and unless it is some Amish country that I have never heard of, the country would fall into chaos. Besides, they would just raise their prices and get one hell of a profit at the end of the 5 days. On a personal level, people lack discipline and are a bunch of wienies.
