That's all that TruFilter says you need to do to remove the filter-- just unscrew the cap and leave the base screwed in. See:
Paragraph 14 of the FAQs on TruFilter's site.
Makes sense to me. I wouldn't like having to remove and risk marring the finish on the finish of the base each time that I want to clean the filter, especially since they already provide a cap to allow easy removal of the filter.
