1. Like TCao recommended, you can start here:
"Building" a great Build-Up thread!!
2. You have the choice of either editing your initial post in your build thread, or simply adding additional posts to your thread as you add more goodies to your FJ.
3. In the User CP (Control Panel), go to "Edit Signature." Once there, you can create a "sig line" that includes virtually anything you want to say about yourself or your FJ. Plus you can add a signature photograph.
To create a link to your actual build thread (once it has been posted), copy your thread's address (by highlighting the browser's address bar) and paste it into your signature line. Add a "title tag" to the end of the thread's address and it should look something like this.

I added an extra "l" to "url" so it would only display as a raw link in this particular post. But, when displayed in your signature line, it will look like this:
