Here is a trick I use, first of all get a scangague. It always amazes me how much the mileage changes going into the wind or up a hill and the scangague shows you instantly. I will save 2-4 mpg just my letting off the gas pedal the slightest bit at certain times like when cresting a hill. The next thing is to utilize neutral when coming to a stop or going down a hill. If you dont need your foot on the gas then let it coast in neutral. My scangague shows better mpg while in neutral coasting than when in drive and coasting.....and my rig is an automatic.

I have a roof rack and ARB bumper and I routinely get over 20mpg.
