I spent 3 weeks in Iceland in 2006. They have some wicked 4wd vehicles, mostly Pathfinders and Defenders, almost no Jeeps at all - even though they call their 4wd vehicles jeeps. In the summer the runoff from the glaciers cuts off the whole interior of the island except for those with very high clearance 4wd vehicles. You can even rent fully outfitted Defenders from the airport... for $1,000/week.
