I can't answer your transfer case questions accurately so I will leave that alone. I have done some pretty sweet off-road in Moab and never touched the transfer case. While I was there [and every chance I get] while on dirt/sandy roads. I would floor it with the intent of throwing it sideways but with the AWD I couldn't get any of the wheels to spin and it was point/n/shoot/n/drive-over everything in my path.
