Before some overzealous moderator deletes my build thread due to inactivity, I guess I better show I've been a little busy with the "
no clever name" beast.
Horns
I finally got around to installing the second OEM horn (the high-pitched counterpart to the original).
Rather than mounting it back on the passenger side fender apron where the OEM connector is, I extended the connector up to the grill area and mounted it on an existing threaded hole above the radiator.
Amazing how much louder the second horn makes it.
CB Radio
I did a few revisions on my CB installation. First of all, I went from the 4-foot FireStik antenna down to the 2-footer. Not only does the shorter one allow for garage entrance, but the wind noise factor on the highway has been cut down to about a fourth of what it was before. (I still carry the long one for extended range capabilities.)
Next up was once again moving the extended CB microphone jack to yet another more convenient location. This time I installed the mike jack under the center dash cover so the mike cable wouldn't be protruding over to the passenger leg area (where I had it previously).
Skid Plates
Lo and behold, the "
no clever name" finally gets some
real skid plates. After much contemplation and evaluating the type of terrain I typically encounter, I went with the All-Pro 3-piece skid plate package (front, transmission and transfer case).
The decision was based upon a
very light-weight system; a set-up that would afford the maximum ground clearance; and ease of (one-man) installation. (Plus, I couldn't beat the price at the time.
)
Installation was about as simple as could be (about 45 minutes for the entire set). And, a light-weight fuel tank skid plate is being researched at this time.
Light Switches
Last, but not least, it was time to put in some nice lighting switches that served my needs for a master spot light On/Off switch, off-road lights, fog lights and rear back-up/utility lights.
I went with the 4X4Mods.com switches that were not only relatively inexpensive (about $10 each), but came pre-labeled for the specific application. (And, they illuminate upon activation.)
Proper installation required removal of the center switch panel. Upon installing the switches (with some minor Dremel work), I pre-wired all of the switched and labeled the respective leads for later connection.
