$60 bucks for some molded acrylic plastic and some velcro seems a little steep to me. These should be more like $24.95 or something.
This is DOT approved acrylic, the fasteners are dual lock {(velcro on steroids!) my husbands motorcycle headlight cover has NEVER come loose!} if your headlights are worth only $24.95 buy the film! the film is not DOT approved. The cost to replace your headlights are $240 each! $60 bucks or close to $500. I'll have to do the math....... hmmmmmm thats $210 savings per side. We have em and like em! on our vehicles!

Putting cost aside, is acrylic the most optically clear material out there that still does the job while allowing the maximum amount of light through without distortion? (thanks)

In a word...... Yes!
I've used these H.L.C.'s on my motorcycles for years with NO light level drop AND no yellowing of any kind. Paige say's they will go seven years before they discolor, but I've seen older H.L.C.'s that were still clear as glass.
They do need to be rubbed out with plastic polish from time to time to keep them looking good.
Why are there no pics? Comeon! Can you get these bug guards chromed?? LOL
