OK guys, I'm on it...
I'm interested too. I've been doing research on this mod and trying to form my parts list. I really like the Scepter filter on the end of the hose, but should we be using a filter or a one way valve like what is on the diff now?

A "kit" would be great. Then I'd know these questions were already answered!!

Thanks,
Shannon

Howzabout marketing a kit for this?

Numerous threads on the board with plenty of folks having done the research and put forth some great ideas to extend the breather to the engine compartment or inside the cabin.

I can scrounge up the parts myself but would rather pay you guys $50 for a nifty little kit.
Dude, give me $50 and I'll send you the parts. It's only about $10 worth of hardware!

Re: Rear Diff/E-locker Breather Kit

OK, as soon as I see you put out parts with All-Pro's quality the $50 will be on the way.

I have a job whereby I work about 14 hours per day and have had one vacation day in a year and a half. That day that was constantly interrupted by customers even though I was off.

I might make money I never thought I'd have, but my time is valuable.

Re: Rear Diff/E-locker Breather Kit

Be cool to see what All Pro comes up with. I am going to turn myself some stainless hardware and go for it. I gotta buy the Toyota one to mimic in stainless, I'm sure Toyota didn't pay for stainless OEM parts. Anyone know what material the Toyota "union" is?

So will the All pro kit come with the filter?

AND ... do we even want a filter? or does the "one way valve thing" that toyota used just need to be relocated?

Re: Rear Diff/E-locker Breather Kit

I'm not argueing about which is better I was asking in around about way if anybody has been getting water in the rear diff!!!

I drove through water up to the hood line at a low speed and for about 300ft 4 times. and i found no water in the diff. I was just wondering if people were have trouble with water in the diff. I spend very little time in the mud and or water. but if it was a concern i might install a breather tube.

Everybody is always so negitive, i thought it was a ligitement ?

NOT-HIS-FJ: I'm not sure if you meant that for me or not, but in case you did I think you misunderstood my post. I think it's a great idea to relocate the breather - seems like cheap insurance to me - but there seems to be some folks that are putting filters on the end of the relocated hose and others that think using the stock one way valve on the end of the hose. I was just wondering which was the most correct way to do it. I'll be relocating as soon as I get this figured out and I can get my hands on the parts!!

Re: Rear Diff/E-locker Breather Kit

Whenever I had water sucked in the rear diff
(on my 87 toy pu and 88 4rnr), it was obvious,
due to the water turning the fluid mud color...

So open up you diff, and stick a probe (finger)
in and look at a dab, if its clouded/tan color,
and not see thru, then it's time to change the
fluid out...

If it's dark and see thru, like gear is new, like
syrup, then you are fine...

Also take note on any granular or metallic type
particles, this is not a good sign...

The stock valve is used when the breather is located in an area on the vehicle that would see water contamination. The reason I used a Air Filter for the breather was now the filter has been relocated up to a much higher elevation, which reduces the chances of water at this level of getting in. What ever way you chose will work, my way is a little nicer visual install.
