What's the argument against a locking setup? If you don't want to lock it, don't.
Cost & added time of development - technically if you made the can lock to the rack, you could simply unlatch the rack & slide it up off the hings & just take everything, although that would be more difficult due to size & weight. The owner was thinking more of just a solid holder for the assembly & if locking it down is a concern then you could simply use a cable lock to secure it. We will see what develops.
You can use a cable lock, but they can still steal by siphoning. I'm more in favor of something that clamps over the top portion, which includes the spout.

I like that idea. Not to rush it to market, but the most logical solution to me would be to have the owner run a cable lock through them and call it good. Less "technical" parts to screw up with sand or mud. Less R&D.
Essentially, the cable lock will keep the honest people honest. No solution will deter a determined thief, though a Glock 22 and a well trained Rottie will make a distinctly lasting impression.
Anyway, would be nice to have this setup. Particularly one that has the fewest moving parts and doesn't look too screwed up when you don't have the jerry cans on board.
RockCrawler.......on another note, is there talk about providing a sort of backplate for the backside of the bumper to add rigidity to the system?
We all respect whatever decision is made and look forward to a well developed product.
that is one bad ass swingout tire/jerry can carrier it justifys the fj's ruggedness and awesome trail ready looks..and as for security very welcome keep up guys..I plan on purchasing one also...
