Re: Advice for adjusting Walker Evans Height

Right now, I am at about 38.5" from the ground to the fender well. What is the most anyone has gone? I am wonder if I could get another inch.

I would adjust it to the height that looks level with the rear and so that your front half shafts are not at an excessive droop while at rest (as it sits on flat ground). Even if the front is slightly lower, I feel this is better as long as you keep the front half shafts from being at a constant excessive droop.

I have found through experience that adding too much lift will cause excessive wear on the top inner front differential seals causing them to fail prematurely (this is the theory).

I've got mine at about 2.6 inches of lift and the half shafts droop about 3degrees or so at a resting stance.

I used to run mine at 3.1 inches or so and that is where I was going through seals. This could have been to a faster driving style mixed with some rock crawling.

When you compress any spring too much it takes away from the overall performance of the shock and how it cycles. This causes the suspension to always be at a droop and top out (fully extend) too fast.

I'm very happy with the WEs now that I have found their sweet spot and how to properly set them up for my truck.

Hope this helps.

So I finally got around to taking care of this today. Traveling for a living sucks some times.

Frogeye, is your measurement of 2.6" the distance from the top of the threads to the top of the adjustment collar?

Negative sir that's a guess

I don't measure from the top of the threads to the top of the adjustment collar because that is inaccurate.

I compare the measurements before adding lift the the measurements after. Just subtract the prelift amount from the lift amout for an idea of how much lift you added.

The 2.6 inches of lift is a guess. And since I raised it another 1/4 inch I'm going to guess that my front is lifted about 2.8 inches or so.

If the threads on most coilovers are the same, a half inch of movement should yeild about an inch of lift. now fine adjustment after that is all on you and your rig setup.
I was worried about using a spray lube on mine, do you think it will promote slippage back down again after some good trails? Just wondering because the spring will be twisting upon each compression I'd assume.

I just found a typo. It said, "fool droop." WTH? Draggo are you messing with me? I know I typed, "full droop." That's a really weird homophone to mess up. Here you go Jeshua
Just saw this thread and laughed when I saw this, you know me to well froggy.

I didn't know they had a name for how stupid the English language is.

Homophone sounded like something else when i first read it.

Junk, I mark my adjustment ring with a notch so that I count turns and monitor for any movement. Try to notch your adjustment ring (paint, sharpie, or I just scratched it with a blade.)

You know I love you man In a "bromance" kind of way. It took you long enough to spot that one.
