AZFJ(nonclub)Club monthly meeting?

Anyone think it would be a good idea to have a monthly "brief" informal, non organized, unofficial, non club get together at a coffee shop? Afterwards we could all hit a movie, dinner or what ever people are in the mood for that day?

This would give us all an opportunity to meet other AZFJ crew who might not be interested in off roading but would like to meet some of the members on this forum.

Some of the benefits:

1) know each other
2) Keep people informed about upcoming events
3) Check out mods first hand and compare notes
4) No meeting notes, board, money collection or by-laws blah blah blah in order to go along with the NonClub theme.

So what do you all say?

Re: AZFJ(nonclub)Club monthly meeting?

I'm IN! Can we unofficially start this in January after the holidays are over with?

I think that is a great idea Speedy! I keep seeing some modded FJ's that don't seem to be on the forum........but if they happen to be driving by somewhere and see 10 other FJ's, maybe they would stop? I would, but I'm a nerd.

It would be great to have monthly non-meetings in different parts of the valley too since everyone seems to live on separate ends on the valley.

Others, chime in!

I still think we should just descend on Don's house like a swarm of locusts.

I'd be fine with doing that monthly.

Re: AZFJ(nonclub)Club monthly meeting?

I would stray from words like "monthly" because that implies some kind of structure, which we mustn't have!!

If we'd like to meet for non-4x4ing, that's cool - just post it up. For instance, the first time I met anybody from AZFJ was dinner at a steakhouse in Tempe... It was great to meet everybody, had a nice meal, and then had a little night run afterwards.

I think this month is sort of covered with the holiday get-together, have to cook something up in January.

Re: AZFJ(nonclub)Club monthly meeting?

Since I've seen various success (or lack of) with this in other "non" car clubs, I'll give my suggestions.

Make it the same location and time every month. I know that you can't please everyone with the location but this seems to work the best because no one ever has to ask where the event is held. It's always in the same place and you seem to get the best numbers this way with a "regular" event. Consistency is the key here.

Weather permitting, parking lot meetings seem to work well for this sort of thing. It's nice because you're sitting and chatting around the vehicles. You can always choose a location where there is food nearby but this seems to work well for focusing the discussions. Parking is always available and you can really line the vehicles up so you can walk around and look at them. I find that when you do it at someone's house you don't get that same feeling.

Just my two cents worth.

Re: AZFJ(nonclub)Club monthly meeting?

I didn't mean that this should be this year but I am just trying to stimulate some ideas....we could start off with an every other month type of thing. Some owners I met are just not interested or don't have internet to go looking for a web site. So something like this is a good way to introduce them to the crew and get them interested in keeping up to date by logging on.

Keep the ideas coming.

Re: AZFJ(nonclub)Club monthly meeting?

I think what spurs our success, compared to a 'regular' car club, is the fact that we're not only meeting to appreciate and enjoy each other's vehicles, but also to get out and do something. Going out to wheel is the underlying impulse that keeps my interest in our group something more like an addiction... and that's good, because I don't think 4x4ing is going to 'get old' any time soon.

He bought his a long time ago....but it's 2wd...and HE keeps getting banned from the site!!!!

If finding a spot for a meet is a problem....I have a huge house....huge lot....huge grill...and a huge head....

And my shop is always availible.....mods and plenty of parking for 30 or so rigs....and indoor room for 6 trucks....
