Re: Powertank fill ups?
I got my dads filled at "The Combat Zone", but last time I went it was gone/closed down.
all of the other places I have tried for both his Power tank, and my Keg Co2 tank have been "Exchange only" places, no simple filling.
If any one finds one, post it here so we all know where to go.
I know some of the Hydroponic supply shops used to fill Co2, same with some of the Fish tank supply places, but in calling around, they are either exchange only, or no more CO2 at all.

I'm an advocate of using welding tanks and exchanging them. It's simple and inexpensive. The tanks will never go out of hydro. High pressure tanks are dated and need to be tested periodically in order to be legally filled. This test is done hydraulically. A place that exchanges tanks takes responsibility for maintaining them.
When welding gas suppliers fill CO2 tanks, they typically wait until there is a large batch of tanks to fill. They will do this on a schedule 2 or 3 times a week, depending on demand. Filling a CO2 tank is NOT AT ALL like filling a scuba tank, where they just hook up the tank to a compressor and fill it on demand. CO2 is stored as a liquid. Tank filling is a liquid transfer. It's done in batches through a pipe manifold into a dozen or more tanks all at the same time.
If you want to use your own tank, it would help to know exactly when a few places have scheduled CO2 fill days. You might be able to find a place that will fill on demand, but don't count on it. If you do, you'll probably end up paying for boutique service! CO2 should be very cheap. I exchange a 20 pound bottle for offroad use for 20 bucks at Vern Lewis welding which is only a couple of miles or so away from me out on the west side. When I lived in the (near) east valley, I'd go to US Airweld on 40th st. below the airport (near University) for the same price.
There are lots of welding supply places. If you really want to use your own tank, the worst case is that you leave it off one day and pick it up the next.
Look for a paintball shop in your area.
I use to go to a welding shop who would fill it while I waited, usually around 10 minutes at the most.
They were not pumping last Saturday, so I hit a paintball shop and the woman hooked it up and had it done in less than 5 minutes.
This was a 10 lb Powertank.

The place I mentioned will fill your bottle and is only $14 out the door. They don't have a particular schedule to filling it and they seem to be able to do it at any time.

14 bucks for what size? Most people carry the little 10 pounder.
Yeah it was for my 10lb bottle. I don't think the price is drastically more for something larger though. You can always call and ask them. They're pretty nice guys and quick to boot! From the look at this place they do bottle filling all the time. I'm honestly not sure what they do normally but that may explain why there is no particular schedule to them and you can always just drop by.
Sweet thanks Mr R2FJ. I'll call em this week. I went to a paintball place and asked them to fill it and they said they couldn't fill scuba tanks, I said it wasn't a scuba tank they said they still couldn't fill it. I would do the exchange bellydoc but I already have the powertank. Thanks again.
I agree that Thunderbird is the place to go as they will be who you go see in 5 yrs to have your tank re-cert'd.
Anthony is super nice and he says he can put together a CO2 setup for 4x4 folks for a great price, he is an offroader also.
