El Camino del Diablo?

I've been wanting to do this run for some time, wondering if any of y'all AZFJers have done it, or would like to do it at some point? Might be fun to get a group together...

Re: El Camino del Diablo?

Boy, it sure is a Monday. That'll teach me to post without searching first...

Re: El Camino del Diablo?

I didn't mean to hit you like that. Yeah, it's a Monday alright. CROZHAWK and I were talking about doing that as part of a larger AZ run in two weeks and it didn't work out because of the love interests of sheep...

Re: El Camino del Diablo?

Spin...a bunch of us did that run....based on the original thread about it that you were part of.....you talked about bringing guns if I remember correctly.....

The run is fun....the camping was fun....

The risk and fear is GONE....border patrol is EVERYWERE.....

In fact ...as far as Arizona desert runs go....this is most likely the safest place in the entire state....

Permits are required but easy to get.....

If you want to come to Az. and make this run....post up....I'm sure a few of us will run it with you....at least I know I will.....

Four trucks is the max....and there are closures for the sheep to mate....so you have to check with those dates first.....

No worries, I didn't take it like that...I just hate it when I jump the gun and post without thinking

Perhaps this fall - I'd love to do the run, and I've spent some time in that part of the state. In fact, I might be down in AZ in a few weeks for some trail runs & camping. Still cold at night, from what I hear, but not bad during the day.

I've sent some time down near Ajo/Cabeza Prieta and liked it quite a bit, except for the trash left by folks coming over the border.

EDIT:

homedad, you're right, I was part of that discussion. I will most definitely post again about getting a group together when there aren't any sheep-lovin' closures.

I always travel heavy. And since I have the creds to get the artillery on the property, I thought it would advance my place in line. Then people dropped out.

Then I wimped out because of work and timing.

We were going to attempt it in two weeks, but the sheep mating closures begin right before that. However, the sheep will exhaust themselves eventually and we'll be back in business! It's a run I'd like to make.

Re: El Camino del Diablo?

Jeeze man, where were you guys when we were begging for fill in's this weekend???

It's all good we had a heck of an adventure with Lance through the California desert and I wouldn't want it any other way. We are going to try to do this run again, but probably looking at October or November, just so its nice weather and all.

Re: El Camino del Diablo?

I figure my next camino trip will be either sept if temps are ok or november since october will have a few other events in it.
But I will be open to options anytime the temps are decent.
I have posted a number of times/places that this run is best done as a 3 day trip to see/enjoy what is out there. You could do 4 days and see some side trails but 3 gets you a great time.
There are also some great areas along the colorado river north of yuma that you could add in for a nice loop or longer trip.
