Premium Fuel in AZ

Help! What gas is everyone using in their FJ's?

I sure would like to save some money, but don't want any long term damage especially considering the summer temps.

Thanks

Re: Premium Fuel in AZ

I use regular gas. The only time I had to use premium was in my Dodge 4x4 because if I didn't it would ping bad. Not even when I had my vette did I see the need for Premium and vette's were famous for boiling over in the HOT AZ TEMPS during rush hour traffic.

Save some money and be happy.

Re: Premium Fuel in AZ

The "premium gas only" label that was placed on the early 07 has been removed....

What IS stated on the 08's window sticker mpg ratings....in small print it says..." Tested using premium fuel" It never mentions it anywere I can see.

Run the cheap crap

Re: Premium Fuel in AZ

I like the higher octane 93 fuel, but the 87 seems to work the same with no engine pings or knocks. I save 20 cents per gallon!

Re: Premium Fuel in AZ

Once the SC was installed premium was necessary.

Re: Premium Fuel in AZ

I figure it is safe since the Tacoma with the same engine says nothing about using premium. I am convinced it was just to get better mpg and hp ratings for the window sticker and such. My too sence.

Re: Premium Fuel in AZ

The computer technology used with today's engines is able to compensate for the various octanes that are available.

BUT....

You may not be saving any money. My 06 GTO requires premium and if I run 87 or 89, the loss of mpg more than offsets the amount saved from premium.

If an engine is tuned to be able to use the higher octane, it will get better mileage with the higher grade fuels. This is why the new sticker says "tested using premium fuel".

You might want to do some testing and see if you really are saving money or not.

With a mpg difference of 2mpg you will be ahead finacially by using premium.

Re: Premium Fuel in AZ

Just an FYI: The best price on Premium I have found is at the Chevron on the corner of McKellips and McClintock in Scottsdale. It is just off the 101 and 202 interchange so it is easy too. I filled up the truck with premium (which it requires after the timing advance I did) on Wednesday for $3.87 a gallon. As you can imagine the rest of the grades are good prices too.
