Questions about towing with the FJC

Posted 05-26-2009 at 03:28 PM by lildreamy
I'm looking at buying the FJC. After all the reviews and ratings I've went through, it looks like the FJC is what I'm looking for. My only problem has been that I can't find out some information I'm looking for. Does anyone tow stuff with their FJC? We are looking at also getting a boat. A small speed type boat. I know the limit is supposed to be 5000 lbs but I'm wanting to know if this vehicle is actually good at towing and made for it since I do not want to ruin the tranny. Also, how does the 4x4 work? Is it a good vehicle to drive on the beach? I'd really appreciate someone helping me out with these questions since I haven't really been able to find them online anywhere. Thank you for your time! :-)

I haven't towed with mine yet, but everything I've read says it tows very well. I believe the tongue weight is 500 lbs. and the tow weight is 5000lbs. The engine should have plenty of power at 239 HP and the torque is around 270 or 280 at low RPM. The vehicle also weights in at about two tons so this should make it more stable. If you search YouTube you'll find people driving their FJC in the ocean (several feet deep) on sand. I think for anything small to medium it would do fine. I found an article that stated it even pulled large trailers and boats well. They also offer a factory super charger for the FJC that would give it more power if needed. The 4.0L V6 and transmission combo are tried and true. Try searching YouTube for video's of FJC pulling trailers.

Ohh wow! Thank you! That was great! Totally answered my question. I can't imagine one not being able to tow a small boat on a trailer now. :-) Thanks again!
