Re: Fuel tank idea?

Don't trust everything you see on Mythbusters - while often entertaining, many of the experiements are fundamentally unsound.

Two people in my area were badley burned last year as a result of static ignition at the pump. Although not frequent, it does happen and is real. Autos with synthetic roof materials in particular are potentially at higher risk as charge builds up quickly as air passes over the roof.

In Asia, manufactures often attach a synthetic "static strap" to the bottom of the vehicles which drags on the ground. I was told it was to provide body grounding although I could never figure out exactly how it was supposed to to that.

Re: Fuel tank idea?

I am thinking of something like that but I am getting a Rola hitch mounted cargo basket and strap the tank to that. The Rola basket can hold upto 600 lbs. so plenty of room to play as far as weight and the design gives it exta ground clearence.

i think mythbusters disproved the static charge igniting myth...could be wrong though
Actually, MythBusters disproved the Cell Phone ignition @ the gas pump myth and while doing so proved that it was static charge caused by the person pumping the gas that caused the flames.

So, a recap..

cell phones = no fire while filling a car..

Static electric discharge = spark = potential boom boom

Don't get Jamie and Adam into trouble.
