Re: Flashlight Review

Tony is spot on. This light from Lowes is my favorite light for the money. Very bright, long lasting, good quality light and a tight beam. I will pick up a few more.

I can't help myself when it comes to flashlights. I have over 20 surefires and I think the only ones worth having anymore are the LED's. My current favorite is the E2L Outdoorsman, 2nd generation. It has a click on 2 stage button and a dual output LED. I think the first stage is 3 Lum and the 2nd is 60 Lum. It has better focus then my 6P LED. It has replaced my E2L first gen with single stage LED. It seems like 90% of the time the 3 LUM is all I need. Prior to that, my E2E was a constant companion.

My old standby is a rechargeable mag light. I keep a few of them plugged in around the house and I have set it up to mount into the FJ with a 12 volt plug in the cargo area. Princeton tec makes very good for the money flashlights. Good led's with long run times.

Pelican has some good lights. I am not a big fan of streamlight. It all depends what you need a light to do. I carry 6 lights in the FJ and 4 on my motorcycle including headlights--good to keep your hands free, as well as 2 lights in all my other vehicles.

Lights for hunting and camping are another story. Long burn time is essential. Brighter is not better in camp.

Regards, SSC

Re: Flashlight Review

As a Scout leader I probably own over 35 different flashlights. Always looking for a good quality heavy duty flashlight that dosen't eat batteries, is field repairable, relatively lightweight and not over-priced. One of my favorites is the Streamlight 3AA- Amazon.com: Streamlight 3-AA Luxeon LED Task Flashlight, Titanium #51016: Home Improvement

Re: Flashlight Review

I still like incandescents because of their throw outside. Don't get me wrong, I would like a LED SF, but I'm just looking for the perfect one. Also with incans compared to LED's the colors are more clear.

LED technology just keeps getting better and better with longer run times and higher lumens. But IMHO it doesn't seem that LED's have developed enough to make incandescents obsolete.

I just bought a polished 6P last week, and bought another G2 today. I think this flashlight addiction is going to get bad. The next thing I want to get a is a 9p with a turbo head, just because it looks so nice.

here's the beauty I just got a couple days ago:

Re: Flashlight Review

You can never have too many guns or flashlights. I wont be selling any. In my den are three, bedroom 5, game room 20+, Garage 4.

Last night, at midnight, my daughter called to tell me she had a flat on the 10 out in Blythe. She and my Son-in-law were on there way back from his national guard weekend. After making sure they were safe and off the road, I asked, "you still have the flashlights I gave you to keep in the car?" She said yes and they were using it to put on the spare. Second question, "how many guns do you have? Two. Son-in-law is LEO, so I figured as much.

I will probably start up-dating my incan's to led. Surefire has upgrade kits. Also, it is nice to have a friend who works for SF.

Regards, SSC

Re: Flashlight Review

Just wondering, any of you flashlight buffs tried this one out from Pelican?

It's a 12V rechargeable 2000 lumen 24 LED waterproof mofo, and it looks pretty neat as a camp light especially as you can raise the light up on a small mast (see website for more pictures). Could be interesting to hear if anyone tried this one out in the field?

I'm very happy with the $29 Flashlight: Taskforce 3W LED.. I've had it for a while and am still on my first set of batteries. It's rated at about 150 lumens. It uses a 3W Cree LED bulb. Those have seen it know how bright it is. The pattern is more spot light then spread. It's can temporarily blind a person if shined directly into the face.

The fiance has one of these and it way out preformed the 6P Led during our 4 day outage from Ike.

So I'll be getting another one of the lowes flash lights.

Re: Flashlight Review

if you are a Surefire fan take a look at the Cabella's branded knock offs. I have owned Surefires for years and I am just as happy with the Cabellas knock off, well happier since its about half the price.
