Hitchmount Food Prep Table

I was looking at camping gear getting ready for a few trips this fall and winter and I saw a blender mount for the rear hitch. The mount included a cutting board "to cut limes for your margaritas". This got me thinking...
1) Does anyone make a table/food prep table that uses the hitch as a base?
2) could I make one of these...the only problem here is I can't weld and I don't think that wood would hold up too well to the elements.

Any thoughts? I drew up some plans but I don't have access to a scanner right now so I can't post them. Mine is a simple design - and L shape on the bottom that slides into the hitch receiver and a T shape on the other end with three hinges that hold the table. You lift the table and a bar comes down and secures into the down tube of the T. Hopefully this gives you some sort of visual....

What about something like this?

My setup will hold 20lbs easily. No rattles and it's not very heavy.

Re: Hitchmount Food Prep Table

Thanks! I probably should have googled it before posting this. I don't know that these will work with the spare tire...at least not in the taller position which is more along the lines of what I'm looking for.

I like that a lot and thought about it when I first saw it but I built a storage box inside and I wouldn't be able to close the door. Have you done any cooking on it?

Re: Hitchmount Food Prep Table

I'm so pissed at myself. I added a cargo net storage to my door. I was wondering if I should install it high or low. I freaking installed it low!! Now I can't do Tony's table mod

Man that is the coolest mod I've seen.
Very practical.

Back to the original question, I would think a hitch mounted table to be in the way.
I've found the the Coleman 30" by 60" folding table fits perfectly behind the seat.

Re: Hitchmount Food Prep Table

I have not cooked on it. I was afraid the heat might affect the backing on the door. I've picnic off it many times. How much room do you have between the box and the door? The tray sits in the groov when folded so it doesn't stick much at all. I can measure it tonight if you want me to.

Here's another view.

When the door is closed the box touches the spot between the two indents in the door.......where's that "if I did it all over again, I would...." thread.....
