Wedco water cans rust

In case any of you are thinking about buying the Wedco water cans (metal) blue, think twice. I bought two of them and store water in them all the time. They both started rusting inside in less than a year. They have a food grade liner inside but it didnt last long. I called the store where I bought them and they said you have to store them dry. (that sort of defeats the purpose of emergency water). Their fuel can are fantastic though. I'm now looking for food grade epoxy to pour inside then pour out and let dry.

Hmm, dang, never would have thought that. I have two of the fuel ones and yes they are amazing.

I went with a 20L scepter water can for the main reason of the opening. It is big enough to fit my arm in there and do some scrubbing if mildew starts to develop after a lot of use.

Re: Wedco water cans rust

yeah, that is with any metal container though...need to be EMPTY for long term storage as the temp changes will cause the can to sweat and moisture will get between liner and can and cause rust. With the gasoline ones they have to be FULL or EMPTY but wont rust if completely full...same reason...where there is exposed metal they can form condensation. Old school metal gas tanks on cars would rust for that reason and if you keep half a tank or lower in your car enough is enough to introduce water to your fuel.
Not sure if it is a problem still with new fuel injections and todays motors but in the old days of carbs only we used to always hear to never leave car low in fuel in summer down here because of humidity and condensation that forms in tank.

That's why wedco doesn't sell the blue cans anymore..they are in the process of correcting this issue...at least that is what I ready else where.
