Can't wait to see some close ups on the rack. There's very little detail shots on the web.

Jake...it will easily handle your Romp Master General azz if that is what your asking?
I am sure the rack will handle more then the roof can
I can say I already stress tested it, by standing near the outside edge of the slide out section and I am 165lbs. The slide out bars are about 50% under the rack and the remaining 50% sticking out.

Folks...I will write up an African Outback Rack review pros/cons with install guide very soon.
I know the pics on the web suck and I had asked a member here who has the rack too, to send pics so I can see...unfortunately he never followed through. So I took the plunge. The instructions that come with the rack are poor, but not terrible.

I will take close ups of the various channel/tracks so you can see all the possibilities.
Lets just say, that you have infinite mounting options on this rack w/o any drilling...so say you make a cheap $2 hi lift mount with angle iron and see that you don't want it on the left side, but on the rear. With this rack, it is just a matter of unbolt and move.
Same goes for lights, or mounted security bins, fuel holders. In lots of cases, you just loosen and slide.

I'll try my best to post up tonight...I know a lot of you are now really interested in this rack...but you really need to hear the pros and cons before you buy...yes their are a few cons ... but correctable

Re: Behold, The Ghetto RTT

I like your alternative to a high dollar RTT. I think it is great whenever someone comes up with a different way to accomplish a goal. Since you do not plan on using a RTT all that much it would'nt make sense to invest alot of $$$ in one. For me the ghetto RTT would be inadequate, because i will use it 20 plus times a year and being able to stow all my bedding inside the RTT will leave more room inside my FJ which will be needed for other items. The one issue i see with your tent is it's ability to withstand high winds, that you could enconter on your kokopelli trip. Chances are you won't encounter a bad wind storm but when the wind blows out in the desert real hard there is no where to hide and i have seen tents destroyed in high winds before. I would at least invest in a good quality tent that can withstand high winds. Hope you don't take this as ridacule or a slam, Enjoy your Kokopelli run!

Re: Behold, The Ghetto RTT

Very nice solution in providing a RTT for the mases. You call it "ghetto", locally we call it "Appalachian Engineering" ( the art of making more out of less) Your choice in roof rack seems to have made a big difference. The other postings above show that the flexibility and the weight of aluminum may justify the price. It is a very functional roof rack design, that allows for the creative mod options like yours. I like James' suggestion about the honeycomb aluminum sheet to replace the plywood. that is the beauty of your solution in that it allows for a variety of options. Good job. Have you posted a review of the rack yet?
