Free Oil Analysis for some Lower Mainlander.

Hey Guys,

I need a "control" for my FJ oil analysis experiment. Here's what I propose:

Someone about to hit 5000kms brings their FJ to my house.
We do an oil change with you supplying the oil of your choice.
I provide a free Toyota oil filter from my personal stash.
I provide a free drain plug gasket.
We torque it up proper like the service guide says (yes I have a good torque wrench.)

We do the oil change together step by step so you don't sue me for screwing something up (hopefully you know how to change oil already, I've done it plenty of times on many a Toyota).

We send out some of your oil for sampling with one of my prepaid kits (about 30 bucks US).

Then when the results come we compare my results with yours. I changed mine early at 1253km, then again at 4960km. This 5000km one MUST be your first change.

We see the difference and post the results. Maybe my pre-emptive change is overkill, maybe your leaving the break in oil is bad for your motor (not catastrophically of course).

Who wants in?

Joel

Re: Free Oil Analysis for some Lower Mainlander.

I actually find this VERY INTERESTING.
I am going to chg my oil myself @2000mi, im not sure km equivailent, but i am a small engine tech, and i would rather change earlier than 5k, i will, however take my fj in at 5k to get an oil chg, just to cvr-my-as* i am only at appx 1.1k mi. so far. i am also a small engine tech at N. Americas largest power equip. retailer, and i have seen way too many engine failures due to lack of maintenance to ever count, that aren't warrantable.

Re: Free Oil Analysis for some Lower Mainlander.

I'd need two oil changes just to reach your house...live in Fl. you know.
You may be on to something. It would be interesting to see what the results are. I changed mine at 1900 and will do so again around 4000, but at that time, I'll be installing the Amsoil dual remote bypass filters and switching to synthetic. Already have the unit and it came with a sample pet**** and one prelabled bottle for analysis. We're on the same page.

I would do it Joel but I believe in early oil changes and just did mine at 1500 KM.

lemme check the miles on my FJ today. I think I'm at about 4000kms right now.

what brand/grade of oil is suggested on these? I'm an import guy, so I've usually just ran 5w30 mobil 1.

OneManBanned, the sample has to be taken at operating temperature and a direct stream into their approved container. I usually stick it under the flow about 10 seconds after removing the drain plug to allow any bottom deposits to get out (not that there will be yet). Thanks for the offer.
