Satellite Radio

Does anyone here have any experience, both good or bad with either of the two satellite radio systems? I am mostly interested in a system that can be moved from vehicle to vehicle as I work in the patch, it would be nice to take it with me regardless of what company truck I get for the drive, plus we also utilize alot of rental vehicles when on the road.

Thanks!

Re: Satellite Radio

Most would take Sirius over XM. One major advantage to Sirius is you can actually, easily cancel their service. XM is like a virus, cancel it, do what you want, but it will not go away.

Re: Satellite Radio

I was told by a quit a few people (who actually have satellite radio) that SIRIUS has a lot better coverage and therefore less dead zones. This would be important especially when going over the rockies. I just bought that latest Sirius model - Sportster Replay 4.

Thats false and the stock ticker agrees, XM uses sats and repeaters to not allow drop outs and dead zones. Sirius only has sats and they dont get everywhere think Direct tv

Re: Satellite Radio

The XM portable units by far outshine the Sirius units.

I live by my Pioneer Inno it goes everywhere with me for a portable unit it wins hands down compared to any of the Sirius units. I take it on the road with me when I have to travel for work because FM radio sucks everywhere I go except SoCal KROQ still rules.

As far as coverage I've had both and XM won in the contest hands down I have maybe one drop out on the XM on my commute and that's if I'm stuck under an underpass. With the Sirius I had drop outs all over the place.

When it's said and done though get the company you want for the programing you want, both have their hits and misses. Granted I'm taking a stab and stereotyping (I blame Mikey since we talk hockey alot) but starting 2007 the NHL will only be on XM and not both like it is now and for some people that's important.

Re: Satellite Radio

I've had both, for me the programming on Sirius was more to my liking. You'll find people on both sides of the fence with regards to drops, coverage etc. Keep in mind that the coverage in the US (with respect to repeaters) is far more mature than in Canada. When it comes down to it, you're paying for content. The Sirius devices used to suck but they now have a portable unit for the same price as XM that does a few more things. Take a look at the channel listings and decide what is more applicable to you - the rest of the stuff (shiny radio etc) only counts for the first 10 minutes you own it after that it's just another radio.
