Haven't seen many people in this thread lately. Hope you guys are still up for a run in the next couple of weeks. Anyways, I went to Shawnigan Lake yesterday. I guess i was around Weeks Lake and met up with 3 other guys. This area is still pretty muddy, since the 3 of us got stuck and had to pull each other out. There's also quite a bit of water in the ruts which makes it hard to see how deep the water is. Once this place is dried out though it should be a blast. I'm sure Runner Ryan wouldn't have any problems going through right now since he's got the tires for it. Let me know if you guys want to go check it out. mrorang2@telus.net or give me a call.
I think I know the spot you are talking about. Is it about 5 min off the pavement? On the left of the road? If so, you really shouldn't go in there. First, there is a lot of nasty stuff in there to cut your tires, and second, it's private property, and there is a sign saying something about fish habitat. Suposedly that drains into a fish stream. If that is the place, you were about an hour away from Weeks lake.
I'm still into a wheeling trip. A lot of the snow is gone, so it should be good. I just really want a protective coat of wax on before I go out. It really makes a difference with the branch scratches.
Its up the road from Renfrew road. At some point the road forks. If you keep going staight you get to one of those gates. If you take the other road up for about 5 minutes you get to where we were. if you look in your mapbook its on map 10 F and G 7 . I guess you're right. i was pretty far from Weeks Lake.
Yup. That's the place. I'm not really a big fan of mud. I mean the deep mucky stuff. Because there is ALWAYS someone with bigger tires that made ruts that are bigger than yours. Unless you are my buddy, Ryan. (Cool name, anyways ) He has 49" Iroks on his S-10.
So what type of trail do you find is the best or most enjoyable?....Are you more of a rock climber or what?...I haven't been on many types of offroad terrain so i'm just curious.
I guess the weather is not helping our plans for as run huh??
I went out today to test my new 37" tires. Well, it snowed. There is about a foot of it out there, now. I didn't do any real wheeling. Just stayed on the main roads. I really doubt a stock truck would have followed me. We can always try, and if it's too much, we can always turn around. Here's some pics...
Oh, and I prefer rock crawling. Slow and steady wins the race.
Stuff around here is a bunch of loose rocks, with some bedrock thrown in once in a while. Always very narrow. Lots of trees. There WILL be branches down the side of your truck. Unless we just stick to the logging roads. They can still be fun for a newbie. Can get some good views from the main roads.
Nope. Not this trip. I'm really trying hard to stay away from the more difficult/damage inducing action. I've been given a second chance, so I'm trying to keep this Cruiser in nicer shape than the last.
